Thomas More in The Tudors - is he portrayed historically accurately?

I have just started watching The Tudors first season (which seems promising and great series), but since I plan to read Thomas More's ''utopia'', I'm interested if his personality and views are portrayed accurately. Was he a humanist and how strong were his religious views? How religious is his ''Utopia''? I'm an atheist/ agnostic and I'm afraid I might find that book too religious or conservative, although I like humanists. And I know it's probably a stupid question, but would he be considered more on the left-wing or on the right-wing if he would live now? Or neither (centrist)?
