How do you export mods to Minecraft? (from a ZIP file)?

got a lots of mods to load to help me build my utopia but, uh...i don't know how to use them. They're in ZIP files right now. Examples of the mods include Death Chests, Shelves, and of course, a Block Spawner. I want to use them and I need help! lol
